Canada and Poland set to expand energy relationship

Canada and Poland are promoting closer trade ties and co-operation in the energy and resource sectors during the first visit to Canada by a Polish prime minister in more than two decades.

A joint statement issued Monday outlined agreement on a tax convention and a committment to two-trade as a “platform” for the two countries to “explore further collaboration in the areas of energy policies and regulations, renewable and nuclear energy, carbon capture and storage, energy efficiency, and shale gas development.” Continue reading

Polish PM heads to Canada for three-day visit

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk was headed to Canada on Saturday for a three-day visit postponed two years ago by the air crash that killed president Lech Kaczynski in Russia.

Polish Ukrainians Demand Compensation for Operation Vistula

Participants of the Second Congress of Ukrainians in Poland, which took place in late April in the Polish town of Przemysl, issued a statement in which they demanded from the Polish authorities to give political and legal assessment of the Operation Vistula and recognize it as repression, Ukrainian information agency UNIAN reported. China Wants More Trade With Central and Eastern Europe

Prime Minister Wen Jiabao said Thursday that China wanted to double trade with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe to $100 billion a year by 2015, and pledged billions in loans to help promote investment in the region.

Mr. Wen made the announcement at a gathering in Warsaw that brought together business and political leaders of countries stretching from the Baltics to the Balkans that are eager to do business with China, even as they struggle to overcome stereotypes still held by many in the region who associate the Chinese as makers of inexpensive toys and designer knock-offs. Remarks in Honor of Poland’s National Day

Well, this is kind of the equivalent of a block party – (laughter) – held for a very good and auspicious reason, to not only celebrate the formal opening of this new residence for the ambassador from Poland to the United States, but also to mark the – Poland’s Constitution Day, a little bit early but a good occasion to do so. And so Ambassador, we are very grateful to be your guests here this evening. And I, too, shared the excitement about the President’s announcement regarding Jan Karski and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. China-Poland want to improve their trade

The leaders of Poland and China said Wednesday they want to increase their countries’ economic, political and social ties.

 Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao also said his country is “ready to cooperate with Poland in the area of human rights and the rule of law.” He did not specify.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said his nation’s 20-year experience with democracy shows that a modern state is tightly linked to the “protection of human rights and civic freedoms.” But he did not point to any shortcomings in China. Continue reading

Polish Ambassador: Ukraine Will Join EU

The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Ukraine Henryk Litwin had no doubt Ukraine would become a part of the EU. This was stated in his interview with ForUm news agency. Poland has a strong investment environment and welcomes more Chinese companies to invest in the country, a senior Polish economic official say.
