Number of Arrested Belarusians on Polish Border Doubled in 2011

In 2011, the number of Belarusian citizens, detained on the Belarusian-Polish border in violation of the rules of border crossing and customs laws of Poland, doubled. This was announced by the Consul General of Belarus in Bialystok, Alexander Berebenia. “The seizures of Belarusian citizens’ vehicles for illegal transportation of excise goods have become frequent as well,” he said.

“In 2011, 68 vehicles were seized in Podlaski part of the Belarusian-Polish border along. For comparison, in 2010, 38 cars were confiscated,” said the consul general, BelTA informs.

The number of Belarusians (150 cases), crossing the Belarusian-Polish border with illegally obtained visas has also dramatically increased. When applying for a visa, they offer an invitation from the Polish citizens, acquired for $200-300 from unidentified persons, mostly in the border regions of Belarus.
